New London Community School District’s nurse has published reminders of all the tests and immunizations students need to start school. If there are questions, please contact Lindy Williams using her email — lindy.willliams@nlcsd.org
Parents of incoming kindergarten students:
The state of Iowa requires that each student enrolling in kindergarten provide the school with proof of current up to date immunizations (or an approved exemption form), proof of lead testing, dental and vision screening verification. Please be sure the office has a copy of the following prior to the start of school:
- Recent Physical
- Lead Testing Verification
- Certificate of Dental Screening
- Certificate of Vision Screening
- Immunization Record
- Over the Counter Medication Permission Forms
Parents of incoming third graders:
The State of Iowa requires vision screenings for all students entering third grade in the fall. A screening will be valid if it was done no earlier than one year prior to the first day of school and no later than six months after the first day of school. For further information please visit the Iowa Department of Public Health website at https://idph.iowa.gov/famil.../child-health/vision-screening.
Parents of incoming seventh and 12th graders:
This is a reminder to parents of upcoming seventh and 12th graders about the current immunization requirements. The current Iowa Immunization Law requires all students entering seventh grade to have proof of a Tdap and meningococcal vaccine. All students entering 12th grade must have proof of their second meningococcal vaccine before school starts in August, unless the student has a Certificate of Immunization Exemption. You may visit http://www.idph.iowa.gov/immtb/immunization/laws to review the requirements.
Parents of upcoming ninth graders:
All children enrolling in an Iowa high school are required to have a dental screening. A dental screening is valid from one year prior to enrollment and up to four months after enrollment date. Visit the Iowa Department of Public Health website at https://www.idph.iowa.gov/.../oral.../school-screenings.
To accomplish the needed screenings and immunizations, may use your primary care provider. You can also use the Henry County Public Health care services. Henry County Public Health has a walk-in clinic every Tuesday 9-11 a.m., Wednesday 1-4 p.m., Thursday 1-4 p.m. and on the 1st and the 3rd Thursday of the month they remain open until 6 p.m. Aug. 1 and 15 will be open until 6 p.m.
Additionally, Henry County Public Health is offering a Back to School Health Fair. SAVE THE DATE: Aug. 13, 4—7 p.m. at Manning Hall, St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 507 S. Jackson St. Mt. Pleasant. (Use the northeast office entrance.) This is a great, easy way to cross off all those back to school requirements!
