Perfect Weather greets Fun Day at Clark Elementary

When Mr. Palmatier arrived in New London and began his career as Clark Elementary principal, he found that the end-of-year activities were largely limited to the older elementary students. With positive change in mind, he kept the 4-5 track meet but added Fun Day so all K-5 students could look back on the school year and say “I had a great school year. I will try harder next year. This is fun!”
Fun Day is loaded with activities using water. Ordinary everyday games have been creatively altered to include water where possible. Many volunteers come out to help Clark staff and teachers. Students rotate through the events trying as many as possible. The warm sunny weather is a definite plus. Water is readily available for students and workers. The football field also benefits from the extra water.
It is hard to imagine years past when the end of year meant dreaded tests and make-up work. Now the last week of school is crammed with many outdoor activities as well as intense end of year academic work. Students, teachers and staff arrive at the last day of school looking forward to summer (as always) while realizing that the past year was productive and many goals were accomplished.
