Aug. 8, 2024 12:00 am
Ryan Scott McLerran graduated with two degrees; one Bachelor of Science degree in Neuroscience and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, with University Honors, from the University of Iowa on May 11, 2024.
Ryan is the son of Mike and Mary McLerran, New London. Ryan gained many valuable skills while studying for his undergraduate degrees. Throughout his time as an undergraduate student, Ryan had the opportunity to serve as the president of Phi Eta Sigma and Co-President for the Biological Interest Organization, and in these roles he improved his executive skills and communication. Ryan also served as a Supplemental Instruction Leader, where Ryan got to fulfill a passion for educating others; a Nursing Assistant and Volunteer at University of Iowa Health Care; a Research Assistant at the Carver College of Medicine in the Department in Pathology; Health and Safety Officer for the Alpha Theta Chapter of Alpha Chi Sigma; and a Resident Assistant in the residence halls, among various other roles. Throughout these positions, Ryan expanded his love for science and helping others. Ryan is excited to share that he has been accepted to the Doctor of Medicine (MD) program at the Carver College of Medicine. Following one week of rest, I began an internship with the Summer Research Fellowship for incoming medical students. He begins his MD studies on August 12. It has been a long journey, and Ryan is very excited and grateful for the opportunity to take this next step!
