Sac & Fox Lapidary Club holds Rocktoberfest

Fairfield Fairgrounds Activity Center was the site of the 2025 Sac & Fox Lapidary Club Gem, Mineral and Lapidary Show. Although the club’s base is in Fairfield, the membership is wide ranging and includes citizens from towns throughout Iowa. Members are also found in Nebraska, Arizona and other states.

Vendors at the rock show display a wide variety of minerals and rocks, clothing and attractive jewelry. Geodes of all sizes and variety were available. Visitors stopped at each booth to find treasurers and pick the brains of the vendors as they learned about new techniques and finds. The president of the club brought his equipment and demonstrated polishing cabochon and other items for collections. He was also able to answer questions for those interested in learning to polish their own finds. Turley there was something for everyone to see and enjoy.

The number of young boys and girls pleased the club. There was excitement galore when one young man chose a geode from Mexico to buy and have split open as he watched. Inside the geode was a formation known as “angelwing chalcedony.” This natural formation of chalcedony is a type of quartz. It grows in intricate filament-like structures. The young man was extremely happy, but his father was speechless.

Plans are already underway for next year’s show. Put the second weekend of October on your calendar.

Sac & Fox welcomes new members. Every third Thursday of the month a meeting is held and presenters show samples and talk about everything from geodes to emeralds. Oct. 16, the program will be on trilobites and paleontology. The club also goes on trips which allows members to collect minerals and rocks for personal collections.
