The Fall Middle School/High School Vocal Music Concert features the New London Choral Groups. Small group and individual performances highlight up and coming songsters. “Disney” was this year’s theme and included lesser-known hits as well as favorites.
Each choir performed two songs. They were nicely separated in the program and enjoyed by all. The Sixth Grade Choir began the concert with Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious. This merry song became popular with the release of Mary Poppins. Later they sang Rainbow Connection from The Muppet Movie. The Junior Varsity Choir presented Go the Distance from Hercules and Friend like Me from Aladdin. Varsity Choir delivered Scales and Arpeggios from Aristocats and We Don’t Talk about Bruno from Encanto. The audience found themselves stretching their memories about Disney films while they enjoyed the performances.
Sophia May sang Waiting for a Miracle from Encanto. Cecilia Jefferson sang Sophia the First from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. The Varsity Quintet rendered a rousing version of the Disney Villain Medley. Every person in the audience responded with an equally rousing appreciation of the singers.
A special treat was in store for every person attending. The concert broke away from the theme for a moment. Matthew Rogers became ill when Goosebumps the Musical was performed last year. He missed his duet. He and Khloe Upton recreated the moment from the musical and sang Babbling Brooke. The results were wonderful.
The concert ended with all the choirs singing on stage. I just can’t wait to be King was the selection. As the parents, grandparents, friends and community left the auditorium anticipating the next musical.
