Brendan Gregory Richey, also known as Brendo, was born to Michelle and Sheldon Richey on November 26, 2005. He joined brother Ryan, 20, and later sister Evelyn, 9, much to the delight of grandparents Charlotte and Richard White and Martha Kauffman.
He has attended school at New London for six years. He has participated in football, basketball, and baseball. Brendan was a two-time state qualifier in baseball and part of the team that won the 2022 Class 1A state championship. He and the basketball team were state qualifiers in 2023.
Brendan was a three-time all-conference pick along with an honorable mention nod in baseball. In basketball, he was All-Union, All-Hawk Eye, and picked SEISC second team. In 2023, he garnered a second team all-conference pick.
His most special memory was winning a baseball state championship. His most disappointing moment was not winning back-to-back baseball state championships…but they were oh-so-close.
When Brendan wasn’t busy at school, he had varied interests and hobbies. He enjoys playing sports and video games and/or working on math. He particularly enjoys hands-on-projects.
When asked to name the special persons in his life, he picks his parents. He says of them, “I wouldn’t be where I am today without their help.”
Brendan thinks his class is special because everyone is unique in their own way. His advice to the underclassmen is to grow up and be nicer to teachers. It will make life a lot easier.
Graduation and starting the next chapter of his life are what Brendan is anxious to get started on. He plans to go into a sheet metal apprenticeship and become an HVAC journeyman.
Brendan is an important cog in the teams that reached the state tournament in the past few years. Tiger Nation will miss seeing Brendan on the field and court, but wish him all the best as he leaves the halls of NLHS.
