Senior Spotlight: Kayla Shiree Strawhacker
Jan. 30, 2025 12:00 am
Southeast Iowa Union offers audio versions of articles using Instaread. Some words may be mispronounced.
Kayla Shiree entered this world on Feb. 10, 2007. She is the daughter of Ashley Shouse and Cole Strawhacker. She joined siblings Gavin Strawhacker, now 15, Kendal Shouse, now 13, Keria Shouse, now 8, Bentley Wood, now 13, and Kayson Strawhacker, now 3.
Her grandparents, Mary and Anthony Martin and Mike and Shiree Strawhacker, were also delighted with this new edition to the family.
Kayla is another Class of 2025 member from “day one.” She has participated in basketball, volleyball, and club volleyball. In her spare time, Kayla enjoys sports and hanging out with friends.
Kayla’s proudest moment will be at graduation when she not only receives her high school diploma but also her AA degree. On the flip side, her most embarrassing moment was when she asked how to spell ADHD.
When asked if there were any people she would like to recognize, she picked two. First was her mom. Kayla says of her, “She has always been there for me and has always been willing to knock some sense into me when I’ve needed it.” She also singled out Mrs. Martin who has helped her get through school since 6 th grade.
When it comes to her class, Kayla thinks what makes them special is that they are close and always get along. Her advice to underclassmen is to wake up for school on time…the extra sleep is not worth a detention.
As she is looking forward to graduation, her plans for next year are set. Kayla will be a student at SCC and will be entering the nursing program.
Tiger Nation will miss Kayla but is very proud of her accomplishments. They wish her the best in whatever she does.
