Two days before Thanksgiving on Nov. 21, the 324th day of 2006, Morgan Rae Jones entered this world. Her ecstatic parents, Mike and Lena Miller, welcomed her to the family as did her big brother Tate, now 22.
Her grandparents were also thrilled and included Ron and Nan Miller, Dan and Elise Parish, and Jim and Ruth Jones.
When Morgan was asked how long she has been a New London Tiger, she says succinctly, “since day one.”
Since getting to high school, Morgan has been very involved. Regardless of the season, Morgan is there. She has participated in volleyball, club volleyball, basketball, track, golf, and softball. If that wasn’t enough to keep her very busy, she has also participated in theater too.
She has been on student council, and this honor roll student is a member of the National Honor Society.
Morgan, the 2024 Homecoming queen, comes from a long line of homecoming royalty that includes her mom, her New London grandparents, and many aunts and uncles.
If Morgan has spare time, she loves to play volleyball. Other activities include doing nails and spending time with her loved ones.
Morgan has garnered many high school honors. They include inclusion on the “A” honor roll, SEISC All Academic team, All-conference honorable mention in basketball, volleyball, softball, and a 2024 volleyball All-Star team participant.
When asked to pick her most special memory, she singled out her sophomore year of volleyball. Her most embarrassing was at a club volleyball tournament. She ran after the ball and tripped in front of a SILENT gym. All she heard was teammate Hailee who burst out laughing.
When asked to pick out her most special people, she picks her parents. Of them she says, “My parents have always been there for me through everything. They are my biggest supporters, and I have never doubted that they would be there when I need them. They push me to be the best version of myself. I don’t know where I would be without them.”
When asked what makes her class special, she says they are pretty close and get along well. Her advice to underclassmen is “always call Dr. O ‘James’ instead, he loves it.”
Morgan is looking forward to golf season and of course graduation. Her plans for next year are to attend SCC to start working toward get her Bachelor of Science in nursing.
Tiger Nation will miss Morgan next year when school starts without her at NLHS, but has no doubt she will accomplish anything she sets her mind to!
