Senior Spotlight: Sophie Rose Malott
Mar. 28, 2024 12:00 am
If you follow New London girls’ athletics, Sophie Malott is always in the mix. She is a four-sport athlete that does a great job representing her school and community.
Sophie is the middle daughter born to Lisa and Joe Malott on April 18, 2006. Her big sister is Summer, 21, and little sister is Stella, 10. Her proud grandparents are Greg and Monica Malott and Cheryl and Danny Parks.
She is a “lifer” in the New London class of 2024. A student council member for two years, she also graced the 2023 Homecoming Court.
Sophie has played volleyball and club volleyball for four years, basketball four years, golf four years, and softball for five years.
Being recognized for her play, Sophie has garnered first team all-conference honors, second team all-conference, and honorable mention in volleyball. She has been an honorable mention pick in basketball; she was a three-time first team all-conference pick in golf; and she was second team all-conference and an honorable mention pick in softball.
When not at school or practice, she likes hanging out with her friends and going on shopping trips.
Her most special high school memory is getting second place at state golf her junior year. Her most embarrassing moment was getting stuck in a bunker on the last hole of state golf and then shooting an 11 in front of everyone.
Sophie singled out her parents, her sister, and her aunt as her special people. Of them, she says, “They are my rocks. If I didn’t have such an amazing support system behind me I don’t know what I would do. They are never afraid to be honest with me but no matter what they always have my back.”
As this senior looks forward to prom and graduation, she says of her class that they are really comfortable with each other. Her advice to the underclassmen is that the four years go by quick, so don’t stress and have fun.
Sophie’s future plans are to go to SCC and major in respiratory therapy plus play golf for the Blackhawks.
Tiger Nation wishes Sophie the best and will be watching for her SCC golf scores in the paper, but she will always be a Tiger!
