Sports roundup: NLHS Golf Legacy Continues

Girls Golf
It’s spring and that means the New London High School Golf teams are in the hunt for the gold. This year was no different. The girls' team will be back at state with the seniors stepping up. The Tigers took second place with a 363, thirteen behind Highland in the regional final held at the Honey Creek Resort in Moravia.
Taylor Phillips shot a 77 to capture medalist honors, while teammate Sophie Malott came in second with a 79. Emma Busby shot a 94 which put her in eighth place. Other Tiger scores were Katelyn Allen had a 113, Sidney Kracht 118, and Stevey Wintermeyer 124.
They advance to the Class 1A state tournament May 23-25 at the American Legion Golf Course in Marshalltown. Congratulations ladies and good luck!!!

Boys Track
Brigham Porter and London Franklin went to the State track meet wearing the black and gold. Porter finished 23rd with a time of 11.49 which was a PR for him in the 100 m Dash. He qualified for state with a time of 11.58. Franklin qualified in the long jump. He finished 12th in Class 1A with a jump of 20-00.25.
Boys Golf
Coen Fitzpatrick shot a 92 at the 1A sectional boys Golf Tournament. He finished 8th and qualified as an individual for the Class 1A District Tournament. He shot a 95 and finished 19th to end his season.
Boys Soccer
Danville-New London beat Columbus/WMU by a score of 8-2 in the SEISC quarterfinal match. This sent D-NL (10-3) into the semifinals to take on Mediapolis (9-3) on Friday. Colin Pealer, Trevor Yaley, Kadu Garcia, and Titus Svoboda all scored goals for the Bears. Quinn Samples saved two potential scoring threats plus scored a goal on a penalty kick.
The Bears faced Mediapolis in the semifinal on Friday, May 17. The game was close with a 3-2 Mediapolis lead in the final minutes. But before the Bears could turn the tide, Mediapolis scored three more goals to win 6-2. D-NL keeper Aiden Konig made 17 saves to keep the Bears close. Pealer and Talan Whaley each had a goal.
It was a hard loss, but the Bears had a great season.
