According to Jessica Reese McIntyre, DNR Environmental Specialist, some parts of Iowa are at risk for worsening drought conditions. March produced above-average rainfall, and April showers were nearly normal. May, however, had below-normal amounts of precipitation and ended two inches below average across most of the state.
She notes that expanded drought conditions are most notable in western and southeastern Iowa. Temperatures are also rising dramatically over the state increasing the chance that drought will worsen.
