If anyone doubts the ability of our secondary music students, their attendance at the high school auditorium on Oct. 8 was a must. Under the direction of Kati DeLlanos, the vocal music department treated the audience to the Tiger Talent Showcase.
Three choirs sang. They included the 6th grade choir, the Junior Varsity choir, and the Varsity choir. Altogether more than 70 students were listed.
The Junior Varsity choir started the evening with “The Bat.” The 6th grade choir was up next. They sang “I’m Seeing Things at Night.”
“Bop to the Top” from Disney’s “High School Musical” was presented by the Junior Varsity trio. The Junior Varsity trio is made up of Alison Wolfe, Stephanie Munoz, and Mikayela Seits. They were quite entertaining.
The next group was the Varsity choir. They also did a selection from Disney’s “High School Musical,” “Double Trouble.” The Junior Varsity choir followed with “I Put a Spell on You.” Soloists for this group included Jameca Helm, Cecilla Jefferson, Kye Waddle, Macy Prichard. Mila Howard, and Viktoria Anderson.
The 6th grade choir returned with “Monster Mash,” a crowd favorite.
The Varsity Choir’s last selection was “Nightmare Before Christmas.” The listed soloists for this group were Riley Merschman, Abigail Denney, Sophia May, Jessica Chambers, Mary Gerst, and Lilly Coffin.
There also, sprinkled in among the choir performances, five solos. Sophia May sang “Sally’s Song” from “The Nightmare Before Christmas.” Matthew Rogers sang “Aftershocks” from “Next to Normal.” Viktoria Anderson sang “Maybe This Time” from “Cabaret” and McKenna Roth sang “Lift It in the River.” Last but not least, Jessica Chambers sang “Get Lost” from Disney’s “Moanna.” These five students exhibited not only great voices, but also nerves of steel.
The finale was “Spooky Scary Skeletons” with all three choirs joining in.
It was a wonderful, uplifting evening!
