Tate Welcher: Hawk Eye HS Athlete of the Week
Congratulations to New London’s Tate Welcher.
He was honored with being chosen by the Hawk Eye as Athlete of the Week for his prowess on the baseball field.
Tate is the Tiger’s catcher, doing an admirable job of filling all-state catcher Tucker Gibbar’s shoes from last year’s state championship team.
Knowing this would be a rebuilding year, Tate has been a steady influence behind the plate for the young Tigers.
Although only a sophomore, he’s hitting .333. He’s tied for third in the state in runners thrown out stealing with 15.
He relishes the responsibility that catching provides and likes being always involved in the play.
