Southeast Iowa Union offers audio versions of articles using Instaread. Some words may be mispronounced.
I caught up with Corey Reid, the esports coordinator and the business teacher at NLHS. He spoke to the great season the New London teams are having.
The teams have competed in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Rainbow 6 Siege. Both teams finished the season going 7-0. They will compete in the fall state tournament in Marshalltown. Rainbow 6 Seige will be competing on Nov. 18 and Super Smash Bros Ultimate will be on Nov. 21.
The Iowa High School Esports Association has recognized Jayden Bergman as the top Super Smash Bros. player with knock outs this season and also recognized Lucas Ranck as the top Rainbow 6 Siege player with his Kill/Death ratio.
Think esports ends after high school … think again! Reid’s esports group went to tour Wartburg on Friday and met with their coach to talk about esports at the college level. It was very interesting.
Anyone who is interested in watching any of the esports games, can watch at twitch.tv/nltigeresports. They can follow the Tigers on Facebook — just search for New London Tiger Esports, for up-to-date info on our season.
Stay tuned for state results from the esports Tigers!
Eight members are on the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate team. They are Noah Crossett, Matthew Rogers, Jayden Bergman, Zoe Long — seniors; Kaeden Connelly — junior; Riley Merschman and Natan Bergman — sophomores; and Charlie Lennie — freshman.
There are 10 members of Rainbow 6 Seige team. They are Lane Stauffer, Israel Lemley, Jonathan Sharp, Xander Carpenter, Lucas Ranck, Linken Welcher, Dalton Hill, Natan Bergman, and Joseph and Jeremiah Haynes.
Best of luck for the rest of the competitions. Go Tigers!
