On March 17 and 18, Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” will be presented by New London’s talented vocalists and musicians. Everyone is familiar with the film version of the mythical creature but this musical version has a delightful flair.
This Hans Christian Anderson story became a classic animated film and is now presented on stage with music written by eight-time Academy Award winner, Alan Menken. Combining his talent with lyrics by Howard Ashman and Glenn Slater, the story of the young beautiful mermaid wishing to leave her sea home to live in the dry world comes to life. The book by Doug Wright helps bring a modern feel to this love story.
To remind everyone of the story just a bit, Ariel, King Triton’s youngest daughter, wants to pursue human Prince Eric. To do this she needs the help of an evil witch, Ursula. True to all evil contracts, Ariel will need the help of many sea creatures to restore order under the sea. Look for Flounder, Scuttle and Sebastian to help her.
Ms. DeLlanos and the cast have been working hard after school as they learn their parts and polish their voices. Watch for the announcement of the sale of tickets. Place 7 p.m. Friday, March 17 or Saturday March 18 2 p.m. or 7 p.m. on you calendar. Support our Performing Arts students as well as have fun for a bit of time under the beautiful sea!
