The New London School Board holds annual meeting

The New London School Board met in regular session on Oct. 20, 2025 with all members present. The first business was the annual meeting. The Superintendent gave some background information on the certified annual report and the funds it covers. He then turned to the special education supplement. There is a deficit. All schools in our area have deficits with the exception of two. They are looking into what can be done.
The next report was the annual transportation report. Again the Superintendent went through various costs and how transportation works. The school needs to purchase or lease two buses. They are exploring both options.
No one addressed the board in open forum. The agenda was approved with an addition and the consent agenda was approved. It contained approval of the following fundraisers:
· Girls basketball apparel
· Boys basketball apparel
· Wrestling apparel
· Day on the Farm Learning
· FFA candle sales (addition)
Board business manager Janae Lemley explained how she is planning to make some changes to the various accounts to enhance transparency.
Reports were next. The Superintendent discussed various maintenance items completed on Friday after P-T conferences. Also reporting were both principals. Both were pleased with the student participation at various activities and gave a preview of coming events.
In board business, fall data was explained. Demographic data presented:
· 40% of our students would fall in the level for free and reduced lunch.
· 15% of students have an IEP (individualized education plan).
· 21 is the average score on the ACT.
· 5-year graduation rate of 90%.
Matt May, the industrial arts instructor, discussed the six different credentials that students can receive plus the apprentice program. May also works with SCC closely with the welding instructors. There are several other opportunities in the district for students to earn credentials.
Allison Lair continued with a report on Clark. There was growth from spring to fall in reading and math across most grades. It speaks to the effectiveness of various programs that are utilized at Clark. They also discussed the math interventions they have used across all grades.
The board took the following actions:
· Approved continuation of participation in the Instructional Support Program.
· Approved Nov. 17, 2025 at 5:45 p.m. as the public hearing date for the Instructional Support Levy.
· Approved 2025-2026 certified enrollment of 592.
· Approved continuation of the writing for the Enhance Henry County Grant.
· Approved Annie Sines as volunteer wrestling cheer sponsor.
· Approved the second reading for several board policies.
The meeting adjourned at 7:34 p.m. The next meeting of the New London School Board is Nov. 17, 2025 at 5:45 p.m. in the MS/HS success center.
