Tigers got second at tournament, but fall short on senior night

The Tigers had a busy week in Volleyball. They hosted a tournament on Oct. 5. The teams on hand were Notre Dame, W-MU, Louisa-Muscatine, West Burlington, Van Buren County, and English Valleys.
The Tigers’ first match of the day was against Louisa-Muscatine. They won, 21-19, 17-21, 15-12. Next New London came out on top against W-MU, 21-19 and 21-17. The Tigers then faced the #12 West Burlington team. The Falcons won, 25-6 and 25-10 to take the championship. The Tigers finished their tournament in second place. Way to go Tigers!!!
Monday, Oct. 7, the Tigers traveled to Danville HS to take on of the Bears. The Bears finished on top with scores of 25-12, 23-25, 25-16, 25-20. The match was hard fought by both teams.
In the second set, Morgan Jones served two aces to overcome a 5-0 deficit and take the lead for the Tigers. Maison Nelson also had two aces and the Tigers ultimately won the game 25-23.
Jones finished with five kills and four aces. Shaylee Brothersen had three kills while Kayla Strawhacker added four. Katelyn Allen had seven assists and Lillie Gallup added 13 digs. Nelson finished with five kills, seven aces, and seven assists.
Tuesday, Oct. 8, the Tigers traveled to West Burlington to take on the Falcons. Pumped up for Senior Night, the Falcons were just too strong. New London went down to defeat, 25-8, 25-8, 25-9.
Morgan Jones had five kills, one block, 18 digs, and was 5/5 serving. Marilanna Woodsmall had three kills and served up two aces. Kayla Strawhacker added eight digs and an ace. Maison Nelson had two kills.
The week ended with the Tigers playing at home on Thursday, Oct. 10. It was Senior Night for the Tigers as the seniors played the Notre Dame Nikes for the last time in their home gym. The final was Notre Dame winning, 25-12, 25-22, and 25-13.
The Tigers will miss the seniors. They include Shaylee Brothersen, Hailee Dudley, Kayla Strawhacker, Morgan Jones, and Lillie Gallup. These ladies were fun to watch and will be missed.
The Tigers start postseason play on Oct. 21 against Wapello at Wapello HS at 7 p.m. Have a great tournament!
