Tiger baseball team advances in a thriller

The Tigers finished out their regular season on Central Lee’s field on June 26. They lost a heartbreaker, 6-5. Central Lee scored a run in the 8th inning to snatch the win.
The Tigers scored five runs on seven hits. Gavin Menke-Bailey hit two singles and scored a run. Memphis Watson hit two doubles with an RBI and scored a run.
Kye Reighard hit a single and scored a run. Brendan Richey and Gage Burden each had a hit, an RBI, and Richey scored a run. Riley Raines also scored.
Menke-Bailey pitched three innings, giving up five hits and one run, while striking out one. Vegas Watson came in and pitched four. Menke-Bailey took the loss. The Tigers finished the regular season 7-14.
One Saturday, July 1, the Tigers started their postseason run. Their opponent was the Highland Huskies, with the game at Riverside. The score was tied at zero through the 5th inning. The Tigers scored the only run of the game in the top of the 6th inning and then held on.
Brendan Richey pitched a complete-game shutout, striking out four. Eighth-grader Riley Raines made a sliding catch in right field and then fired to first to get the runner and complete the double play. Kye Reighard made the final catch to clinch the Tigers’ 1-0 victory.
It was a total team effort as they let their defense win a nail-biter. The Tigers will take on the Notre Dame Nikes in the District semifinal at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 5 at Winegard Field in Burlington
