Dec. 21, 2023 12:00 am
On Tuesday, Dec. 12, the Tigers hosted the Mediapolis Bulldogs. The boys got off to a slow start, scoring only five points in the first quarter to the Bulldogs’ 15. But the Tigers battled back in the second and took a 23 to 22 lead into the locker room. The shooting turned cold in the 4th quarter with the Tigers only scoring seven to Mediapolis’ 20. The Tigers lost 58 to 42.
The individual stats follow:
- London Franklin led the Tigers with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
- Memphis Watson added 11 points and three rebounds.
- Brendan Richey scored six with two assists.
- Carter Benjamin had five points, six rebounds, and three steals.
- Brigham Porter scored four points and pulled down three rebounds.
- Tate Welcher had three points and two assists.
On a sad note, the Tigers lost Tate for the season as he suffered a leg injury. We hope and pray he heals quickly and completely.
On Friday, Dec. 15, the Tigers hosted the West Burlington Falcons. The young Tigers were bothered by the Falcons’ full-court press and the teams’ overall quickness. It was a bad night for the boys as they only could muster 31 points to West Burlington’s 73. The Falcons had four players in double figures.
The individual stats:
- The Tigers were led by Brigham Porter and Brendan Richey who each had nine. Porter also had four rebounds.
- London Franklin added eight points and pulled down 10 rebounds.
- Memphis Watson added three points, six rebounds, and three assists.
- Logan Franklin had two points.
The Tigers played host to GMG on Saturday, Dec. 16. They really needed a win. They seemed to be well on their way to victory taking a 33 to 29 advantage at halftime. But GMG rallied and the final was Tigers 60—GMG 59,whew!
- Brendan Richey led the Tigers with 21 points and made seven three-pointers.
- Brigham Porter added 16 points, making eight out of 10 free throws.
- London Franklin had 11 points and four rebounds.
- Memphis Watson scored six points and two rebounds.
- Carter Benjamin added four points and pulled down seven rebounds.
- Deangelo Griffin rounded out the scoring with two points.
The Tigers’ last game before break will be Thursday, Dec. 21 at Iowa City Regina. The JV contest starts at 6 p.m. and the Varsity starts at 7:30 p.m. Good luck Tigers!
