Auditorium Carpet
By: Miguel Partida and Devaughn Daniels
In the auditorium at New London, Iowa, they are replacing the carpet in there so it could match the color of the room. Colors were maroon, red, and blue but with the carpet being all black it wouldn't match the theme of it.
New London’s auditorium carpet was 25 years old that is why they replaced it. Process it took though was 30 minutes taking out and 2 days for installing the new carpet
Materials cost them 6585, and the service was 2846 which led their total to be 9431 dollars spent on the carpet. Glue residue was the only thing that was worried about being on the floor after the carpet was removed, because they don't want it to mix in with the new glue.
The carpet company came and took their measurements though by rolling the carpet on the ground and removing the extra carpet. But they will not be replacing carpet for other rooms because if there’s rooms with wood floors they are easier to clean than carpet.
Their carpet wasn't modern to the auditorium now so they decided to replace it to make it look modern. They bought it from Pheinshmidts but other carpets in other rooms are from different companies.

By Olivia Crossett
The fall play has been chosen by the New London High School theatre class. The name of the play is Game of Tiaras. The play is directed by Tori Kenel, the New London High School theatre teacher. The play will be performed in the New London Auditorium on November 14-15,2025.
Freshman Taryn Brown will be in the play as French Soldier 2, Soldier 2, Other Princess 2 and Crowd member 1. She is also on the Costume Crew in the theatre class in charge of finding and designing costumes for the actors. Brown says practice for the play is going okay so far for her. When asked about her thoughts on the play, she said “I think it’s fun but also kinda a lot”. She recalled one funny moment where Senior Matthew Rogers had to leap into the scene on stage, but pranced instead like he was a ballerina.
The Hair Company
By Makenna Jacobsmeier & Kylie Wagner
The Hair Company is a small shop in New London, Iowa. Amanda Brotherson has been an employee there for 17 years. Shannon Wellington runs the Hair Company, and she has been running the salon for 19 years. Amanda Brotherson was interviewed and asked 10 questions about her job, intending to inspire others/ Amanda Brotherson states that she loves working there because there’s always something new to do, whether that’s crazy hair colors or talking with clients. As much as she loves her job, she only works 3 days a week from 8 am-5 pm.
Amanda’s Brotherson’s busiest day is Tuesdays, as the day is long, sh enjoys doing her favorite hair color, classic blonde highlights. Amanda Brotherson’s easiest haircut to give is a boy’s buzzcut, although it’s the easiest, she usually gets adult clients. As buzzcuts are easy to give, what got her into cosmetology was her love for playing with hair.
Changes In School
No Byline
People joining a sport late should be allowed but should miss out on the first game since it wouldn't be fair to the other team mates. Since allowing late joiners to play right away would prove to be potentially aggravating to some.
Without foods in school students won't really know the basics of the kitchen. Which is like cooking, cleaning, sanitizing, and making sure none of the food gets cross contaminated. A longer passing period should be allowed for people that have to go from a far place. Reasons to why though is because it wouldn't be fair to the people having to walk all that way and still get marked tardy.
We should be allowed only 2 mental health days because it would be good for us students and our mental healths matter. Having a free day or two for mental health could possibly refresh the mind and relieve some stress from the "Angsty teens" or stressed students to make them feel more at ease/comfortable with themselves during school hours and improve their drive to keep excelling in classes to maintain the feeling/mood.
Staying in cars prevents proper supervision and could lead to unsafe or inappropriate situations. Staff don't also know what is going on inside of your vehicle.
We shouldn't be allowed a longer lunch because with the time we have now with lunch, people just mess around with the remaining time left for lunch once they are done eating.
Phones provide a reliable way to handle emergencies while maintaining rules to prevent distractions at school. Allowing phones again could also make us feel way more safer at school.
A 4-day school week would give students more rest, improve focus, and allow extra time for personal responsibilities. Just like with mental health days a 4 day school week would also prove to be vital support to students but some parents are not sure of having this due to their work/occupation which would lean more towards a slightly more stressed parent or they'd receive more worries for their children.
Allowed only one study hall because that could be beneficial for us and we could get more work done then we already have. It could also help us catch up on things that we are behind on like homework or something.
Also starting earlier lets us get out sooner and have more time in the afternoon for work, sports, or relaxation
New London Esports article
By Jalen Reynolds and Tatem Reed
The New London Esports have had a great halfway point in the season. Both Smash Bros and Rainbow 6 Siege are undefeated, Super Smash Bros Ultimate with a record of 4-0, trying to make it 5 - 0, while the Rainbow 6 Siege team is 5-0 currently.
The Esports team is very good here at New London. Many people think that the Siege team is very good, but the Smash bros team is just as good. Both teams have a good chance at state. Due to their play against other teams.
The Rainbow 6 Siege team is also very good at communicating with one another due to Siege being a very strategic game and very complex for some people.
And Smash Bros is also a strategic game due to maps, combos, etc. Siege is about out-thinking and outmaneuvering your enemies.
These two games have very good players set on getting a state championship for the Esports team in Siege and smash bros.
We asked some of our classmates, players, and the esports team coach, Cory Reid, what they thought about this season for our esports team. When asked about what he thought of our season, Mr Reid stated, "I really do love coaching esports, and I think that we will do great this year based on how well both the Siege and Smash players are performing."
Another person that we interviewed is Charlie Lennie, and he seemed very pleased with how his first year of playing esports is going, even stating, "Super Smash Bros is very fun and I will definitely be playing next year too."
Many people believe that we will continue this season well and make it a very memorable season for not only the players, but the whole school.
Student section still thrives
By: Ethan Prichard and Kayden Kinney
Even though there is no more football this season, the fans remain extremely supportive of the team. Before the football season ended, the fans were still there up until the end. Now the New London fans will start packing up the student section of the volleyball games. Ian Lipper says, "There are always people supporting in the student section.“ Taylin Swailes also says "that there are a lot of people participating in the student section".
Everyone who participates in theme night has a favorite theme. Carter McCampbell said he loves "Soundcloud rapper night." Ian Lipper says he likes "neon night." Kayden Kinney says he likes "pink out night because he loves the color pink." If you ask most people, they will say that Soundcloud rapper night is their favorite, but others will say they have different favorites from the others.
The crowd in New London is very creative with their chants. Whether they are losing or winning, the crowd loves to make up new chants to cheer on their home team. Some of these chants could just be a sound like "the bazuka." "The bazuka" is when the home team serves the crowd, making a whooshing sound, and whenever the opposing team hits the serve, they make a boom sound.
The crowd is always excited when something big happens in the game. When the other team scored, they were still yelling and hollering. When a big moment occurs for New London, they will always celebrate as loudly as they can. Sometimes it gets so loud in the gym that you can't hear anything.
With all of the cheering and chants, you would think that they have great sportsmanship. Their chants aren't always the nicest. After a game they lose the crowd has zero sportsmanship. lan Lipper says that "they have no sportsmanship after a loss". Taylin Swailes also says, " They are absolutely no sportsmanship, win or lose, they are still chanting".
New London Senior Night
By Riley Raines and Justice Farris
On October 7th, the New London Tigers held their fall senior night during a volleyball game at the New London Gymnasium. The fall activities included, band, cross country, e-sports, football, and volleyball. Art teacher, Mr. White, called out every senior, their activity, and their plans for after high school.
Senior night is a time for our community to show their appreciation for students who are active in the school. They show their appreciation by coming to cheer on the seniors as they walk across the gym. Mostly all seniors were most appreciative of their families coming out to support and cheer them on.
Senior, Kennedy Herrick, was asked what her favorite part of senior night was, she replied with, "My favorite part was how much of our community showed up." When Senior, Jayden Bergman was asked the same question, he responded by saying, "Being represented by Mr. White."
Surprisingly, most seniors that were asked if they would miss their fall activity replied with no. However, Jayden Bergman is really gonna miss, "Smash Bros."
During senior night, the New London Tiger's volleyball team faced off against the West Burlington Falcons. Kennedy Herrick, felt that the team didn't play to their full potential, but she felt like she preformed well and wishes she would've got more playing time on her Senior night.
The dress up theme in the student section was Pink Out. Everyone came dressed in all of the pink they had, to show their support for the team. All of the fans said they loved it and it was a good choice.
Roadwork
By: Kayden Kinney and Ethan Prichard
There has been road work all over New London, blocking cars from going down the street they need to go down and making it hard to navigate to where they need to go.
The cause of the roadwork was said to be for fixing pipes and doing annual maintenance, and although it was necessary, many people were very annoyed by it.
New London student Taylin Swailed said that it was very inconvenient and made him have to go out of his normal route and take the longer way home after school.
New London student Owen Curry said that it was very annoying having to deal with their machines blocking the road to get to school.
The construction crew has still been moving around town, doing more roadwork and shutting down roads and sidewalks, although they're done with the work in front of the school.
Even though it is making a ton of people from New London annoyed, it is helping to community and fixing stuff that needs to be fixed
