The New London Tiger Shooting Sports Team held a Trap Tournament at Aim High Shooting Co. in Salem on April 27. The weather cooperated wonderfully. Five schools entered their shooters and the total number registered was 175.
This is just the second year for this sport in New London, and its reputation is growing by leaps and bounds. The team, coaches and families have made great strides promoting this growing sport. Several innovations were introduced by New London. Gentlemen and Ladies competed in separate divisions. The three top shooters in Intermediate Entry, Intermediate Advanced, Junior Varsity and Varsity classes received prizes. Instead of receiving medals, the prizes were leather items coveted by many contestants. First place received a leather shell case, second and third place received a leather barrel rest.
“The kids were so excited to receive them!” said Wendi Smythe, of the prizes.
A huge thank you goes to Ryan Seberg, owner of G5R Sales and Service Garage Doors, who sponsored and purchased the leather for the tournament.
The team has nurtured a family spirit, and everyone helps to ensure the success of the team, matches, and tournaments. Students and their families arrived at Aim High at 7:30 on the morning of the shoot. Many provided food. In addition to setting up, students and parents worked throughout the tournament. At 12:30, it was time for the New London team to shoot. They did a great job, and then returned to make sure that all the schools had a great time.
New London’s Eden Millard received a third place in the Ladies Intermediate Advance class. May is full of Tuesday night matches, Danville, and BHS tournaments. The culmination of the season is the Fun Day shoot, which will be Friday, May 31 at Aim High.
