As the teams gear up for tournament time, they did play last week.
Baseball
The Tigers had a make-up game with Notre Dame on their home field on Monday, June 23 from the original schedule of 6/20/25. The boys must not have been feeling it because they lost 13-2. ND did their damage in the second inning, scoring eight.
The Tigers had 19 at-bats getting five hits and scoring two runs. Memphis Watson had four hits, a single and a triple, and scored a run. Gavin Strawhacker, Gavin Menke-Bailey, and Gage Burden got single hits, with Cale Westerbeck scoring the other run. Owen Nehring suffered the loss.
The Tigers played the Danville Bears at Community field on June 24. The team took a hard loss of 6-0. The Tigers had two hits from 20 at-bats courtesy of Kye Reighard and Tate Welcher. They racked up four errors and Gage Burden took the loss.
On Thursday, June 26, the Tigers lost a heartbreaker to Central Lee, 3-1. Their only run came in the 8th inning. Three players, Watson, Menke-Bailey, and Tate Welcher, got the team’s five hits. Cale Westerbeck scored the Tigers’ only run. Kye Reighard took the loss.
Things finally began to look up on Friday, June 27 as they beat Van Buren County on their home field. The Tigers went to the plate 32 times and had 13 hits. Tate Welcher led the stat sheet with three hits, two singles and a double, three RBIs, and scored two runs. Almost everyone had a hit. It was the kind of game they needed at this point in the season. Gavin Menke-Bailey picked up the win.
Softball
The Tigers got a win against Danville, 7-6. The ladies scored three in the 5th inning and four in the 7th inning. Kellee Milks, Katie Miller, and Shaylee Brothersen each had two hits and scored a run. Miller also had two RBI’s. Others getting a hit were Olivia Hester, Morgan Jones, and Jayda Nichols. The winning pitcher was Kylea Schwenker.
June 25 saw the Tigers fall to Columbus, 16-8. In 31 at-bats, the Tigers had 10 hits. Shaylee Brothersen, Kylea Schwenker, and Olivia Hester each had two hits with Hester hitting a double and getting two RBIs. Schwenker took the loss.
Central Lee came to town and took home a big “W” with a 17-4 win over the Tigers. Central Lee scored seven in the 4th and five in the 5th. Kylea Schwenker went 2-for-3 hitting a single and a double. She suffered the loss.
The last game of the week was against Van Buren County at New London. The Tigers lost 10-1. Natalie Fisher had the Tigers’ only hit with Morgan Jones scoring the run. Schwenker was credited with the loss.
