JV Boys BB
The JV boys got their first win on Dec. 19 against Columbus, 64-17. Way to go fellas!
Varsity Girls Basketball
On the week before winter break, the varsity girls were still looking for their first win. On Dec. 17, the Tigers went up against Central Lee. At the half the score was 35 to 2 Central Lee. The final was 52 to 15.
Senior Mylee Miller scored six points and pulled down seven rebounds. Ruby Myers added four. Maison Nelson scored three and Morgan Jones had two.
On Dec. 19, the Tigers traveled to Columbus. After the first quarter, the Tigers led 11 to six. The final in this game was Columbus 63 to the Tigers’ 30. Megan Lee had a big night scoring 14 and adding eight rebounds. Mylee Miller scored eight and had nine rebounds and four blocks. Maison Nelson had three points. Molly Proost added four points and five rebounds.
Friday, Dec. 20, the Tigers played Mediapolis in the last game before the winter break. The Tigers got off to a slow start, not scoring until the second quarter against the undefeated Bulldogs. The final score was a 68 to 13, a Mediapolis victory.
Mylee Miller led the Tigers with eight points, five rebounds, and two blocks. Morgan Jones and Madelynn Nelson each added two.
Varsity Boys BB
The boys’ team are also looking for their first win. The final score against Central Lee was 24 — 62.
Senior Tate Welcher was the leading scorer with eight points. He added four steals. Israel Lemley had five points and four rebounds. Brigham Porter and Riley Raines each added four points and four rebounds. Cole Swanson rounded out the scoring with three points.
The game against Columbus was a better effort for the Tigers. The final score was Columbus 59 to the Tigers 49. The Tigers were hurt by single digit scoring in the second and fourth quarters.
Brigham Porter led the team with 21 points, six rebounds, and four steals. Israel Lemley added eight points and three rebounds. Gavin Strawhacker added seven points, six rebounds, and two steals. Cole Swanson had four points, eight rebounds, and a steal. Ethan Prichard had three points and Tate Welcher, Riley Raines, and Dylan Burden each added two.
The game against Mediapolis was on December 19, the last game before break. Again the Tigers struggled to score. The final was a MEPO win, 72 — 30.
Tate Welcher had 11 points and two steals. Riley Raines had seven points and Cole Swanson added six. Brigham Porter scored four points and had three rebounds. Dylan Burden added two points.
It was a tough week for the Tigers. It’s a good time as their fans to be positive and supportive.
Wrestling
Five area schools wrestled in the Fort Madison wrestling invitational on Dec. 20 and 21. They were in a field of 22 teams that included area teams Columbus/WMU, Washington, New London, Cardinal, and Highland. The Tigers finished 16th as a team with 144 points. New London’s top spot in the tournament was Gage Burden. Burden placed second at 138. He won seven matches. In the first place match, Burden fell to Landen Davis of Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont.
