Monday, June 2
Pekin rolled into town to play the Tiger boys. The baseball team pulled out a nail-biter, winning 2-1. Pekin scored their only run in the first inning while the Tigers scored in the 4th and 6th.
The Tigers had seven hits. Gavin Menke-Bailey went 2-for-3 scoring two runs. Tate Welcher also had two hits and an RBI. Gavin Strawhacker and Memphis Watson each had a hit with Strawhacker adding an RBI. Pitcher Kye Reighard got the win.
The girls played their game in Winfield. They gave a valiant effort, but lost the game, 11-7. The Tigers scored three in the 5th and four in the 7th. Pekin’s big inning came in the 6th when they scored six.
The leading hitters were Morgan Jones, Quin Smith, and Olivia Hester, each with a single. Smith had an RBI and scored two runs. Shaylee Brotherson, Kylea Schwenker, and Kellee Milks each scored a run. Megan Lee took the loss.
Tuesday, June 3
The games were canceled due to impending bad weather.
Wednesday, June 4
The Tigers traveled to Mt. Pleasant to take on the Panthers. The team played hard, but lost by a score of 8 to 4. The Tigers had 10 his and scored four runs. Memphis Watson had a big night at the plate going 4-4. He added an RBI and scored a run. Gavin Strawhacker had a hit and scored a run. Gavin Menke-Bailey hit a double and had two RBIs. Kye Reighard had two hits. Gage Burden and Riley Raines each had a hit and Burden and Cale Westerbeck each scored a run. Menke-Bailey took the loss.
Unfortunately the Lady Tigers didn’t fare any better. Their score was Tigers - 1/Panthers - 3 with their only run coming in the third inning. They had five hits with Shaylee Brothersen, Katie Miller, and Maison Nelson hitting singles and Quin Smith getting on base twice. Miller scored the Tigers’ only run. Pitching for the Tigers was Kylea Schwenker.
Thursday, June 5
The boys had an exciting game with Notre Dame, winning the game 10 to 9 on the Nikes’ home field. The Tigers had a big fifth inning, scoring six runs. The big hitter on the night was Tate Welcher going 3 for 3. Others getting hits were Memphis Watson, Gavin Strawhacker, Gavin Menke-Bailey, Kye Reighard, Sully Barron, Gage Burden, Riley Raines, and Cale Westerbeck. Reighard was the winning pitcher.
The girls played Holy Trinity at West Point and lost 8 to 0. Four Tigers batted .500. They were Shaylee Brothersen, Olivia Hester, Lena Nelson, and Katie Miller. Kylea Schwenker was the losing pitcher.
Friday, June 6
Danville came to town ready to take one from the Tigers, but it was not to be. The final score was 13-3 Tigers. The boys scored in the first four innings. Gavin Menke-Bailey went 3 for 3 and Tate Welcher went 2 for 2. Memphis Watson went 3 for 4, hit a triple, and scored a run. Sully Barron had 3 RBIs. They were error-free in the field and Gavin Strawhacker was the winning pitcher.
Tigers end the week 5-3.
The girls lost a close one against Danville, 5-4. The leading hitter was senior Olivia Hester going 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs. Lena Nelson hit a double and added an RBI. Kylea Schwenker suffered the loss.
Saturday, June 7
The Tigers played in the Davis County Mustang Classic. They played Davis County and lost 14-5.
The leading hitters were Olivia Hester and Maison Nelson who each had two hits in three at-bats. Shaylee Brothersen hit a double and she scored a run. The Tigers finish the week at 1-8.
