It seems like the state track meet was the only sporting event in town, but that certainly wasn’t the case.
Girls Golf
At regional first round at Heritage Oaks, New London finished 3rd as a team with a 430. Emma Busby and Stevie Wintermeyer advanced to the regional final at Little Bear Country Club in Wyoming. Busby earned the Hawk Eye athlete of the week honors.
At the Class 1A regional final, she carded an 85 and will play in the Class 1A state tournament.
The girls’ Class 1A state meet started on May 29 at the American Legion Golf Course in Marshalltown. New London’s Emma Busby shot a 93 for 18-holes and is tied for 33rd place.
The meet concluded Friday, May 30. Busby shot an 87 and finished in 24th place for a 38-over par. Way to go Emma … here’s to a great season!
Boys Soccer
In boys’ Class 1A Substate 5 bracket, Danville-NL was defeated by West Liberty 10 — 0.
Baseball/Softball
May 27 the Tigers played Mediapolis. They lost 4-3. The game was tied until the Bull Dogs scored a run in the 11th inning. The Tigers got three runs from five hits. Memphis Watson, Gage Burden, and Gavin Strawhacker each had a single. Gavin Menke-Bailey took the loss.
The Lady Tigers lost their game 9 — 2. They scored two in the 5th inning. There were no individual states available at press time.
On May 28, the Tigers were home against Keokuk. The Tigers won in a rout, 11-1. The big inning was the 2nd where they scored six runs. Memphis Watson went 3 for 3 with an RBI. Gage Burden hit two singles and two RBIs. Gavin Strawhacker had two RBIs and Cale Westerbeck hit two singles. The winning pitcher was Gage Burden.
Playing in Winfield, the softball Tigers got a big win over WACO, 17-2. There were no individual stats available.
On May 29, the baseball team lost a heart breaker to West Burlington, 1-0. The only score coming was in the 6th inning. The Tigers had four hits and the losing pitcher was Memphis Watson.
The girls lost to WB-ND 10 — 3. There were no individual stats available at press time.
On May 30, the Tigers beat L & M 11 to 8 in an away game. The Tigers had 11 runs for 30 at bats. Memphis Watson scored four runs, had four RBI’s, and hit a triple. Gage Burden scored two runs and had an RBI. The winning pitcher was Sully Barron.
The softball team had a long night, losing to L & M, 13 — 0. There were no individual stats available at press time.
