Monday, June 9
The Tiger teams traveled to Wapello to take-on the Arrows. The baseball team left the field victorious as they destroyed the Arrows, 10-0. The Tigers exploded in the second inning when they scored five runs.
Leading hitter Memphis Watson went one-for-two hitting a double. He scored three runs and had an RBI. Tate Welcher went two-for-two with a single and a triple. He scored a run and hit in three RBIs. Scoring one run were Gavin Strawhacker, Gavin Menke-Bailey, and Tate Welcher. Gage Burden hit two singles and scored a run. Owen Severson hit a single, scored a run, and had an RBI. The Tigers struck out six times in 21 at-bats. As a team, they had zero fielding errors. Sophomore pitcher Owen Nehring went the distance getting the win. Way to pounce, Tigers!
The varsity softball team had a tough night, losing 8-2. The JV softball team won their game, 9-4. There were no individual stats available at press time for either game.
Tuesday, June 10
As Monday’s night was a triumph, the Tigers faced the Central Lee Hawks and went down in defeat, 0-4. The Hawks scored three in the first inning and one in the fifth. The Tigers never got going. The boys had 18 at-bats and only generated two hits, both singles, belonging to Gavin Strawhacker and Tate Welcher. Central Lee struck-out 10. The team had only one fielding error. Memphis Watson suffered the loss. There will be better nights.
The JV softball team took a spanking losing, 12-1. The varsity lost as well, 9-1. Central Lee’s big inning was the first where the Hawks scored six. There were no individual stats available at press time for either game.
Thursday, June 12
The Tigers lost a heartbreaker to the Mediapolis Bulldogs by a score of 4-5. New London nearly pulled off the upset against #7 Mediapolis. Kye Reighard led the Tigers, smashing a triple for four RBIs. Others getting one hit were Memphis Watson, Gavin Menke-Bailey, and Gage Burden. Gavin Strawhacker got two hits from his four at-bats.
The JV softball team fell to Mediapolis by a score of 4-13. The varsity team lost 0-1. There were no individual stats available at press time for either game.
Friday, June 13
Friday the 13th is only unlucky if you let it be, and the Tigers were having none of it. They won a close one on this night, beating West Burlington 9-8, scoring in five of the seven innings. Gage Burden had a perfect night at the plate going three-for-three and scoring three runs. He threw in an RBI for good measure. Gavin Strawhacker was 3-for-5 with three RBIs. Kye Reighard hit two singles and added two RBIs. Others getting hits were Memphis Watson, Sully Barron, and Cale Westerbeck. Strawhacker got the win. Way to bounce back, Tigers!
The Lady Tigers had another tough night against West Burlington/Notre Dame. The final was New London-2/West Burlington-11. The Tigers’ only scoring came in the second inning. There were no individual stats at press time.
Saturday, June 14
The baseball team played in the Brieholz tournament in Burlington. They beat Cedar Rapids Washington 11-10. They had 13 hits in their 33 at-bats. Gage Burden had two hits, hitting a single and a triple with three RBIs. Gavin Strawhacker, Gavin Menke-Bailey, Kye Reighard, and Sully Barron each went two-for-four. Barron added three RBIs. Owen Nehring was the winning pitcher.
The final game of the week was the Tigers playing Burlington. The boys lost, 6-7, with the Tigers getting six runs on seven hits. Kye Reighard went three-for-three with a single, double, and a home run with four RBIs. Memphis Watson, Gavin Menke-Bailey, Owen Severson, and Cale Westerbeck all got hits. Sully Barron took the loss.
