Dec. 15 and 16 found the Tiger wrestlers battling at the Fort Madison Tournament with 23 other teams from the area.
After a long and hard-fought six hours on Friday night, Kane Forseen, Gage Burden, and Michael Raines all made it to the top-seeded side of the bracket. The rest of the Tigers would be competing for ninth through 24th place.
Saturday morning saw Kane Forseen with a big win to move on to the semifinals. Michael Raines and Gage Burden both had tough losses in the quarterfinals but would compete to battle back for 3rd place. Gavin Menke-Bailey got a huge win to advance to the semifinals in the silver bracket. Corbin Jacobs-Jewell had a loss but would continue to wrestle back. Killian Kelly had a first-round bye.
The final round of the tournament had the Tigers still competing. Kane Forseen was going for the gold, Gage Burden for 3rd, Michael Raines for 5th, Gavin Menke-Bailey for 9th, Corbin Jacobs-Jewell for 11th, and Killian Kelley for 17th.
After a long, grueling two days, the Tigers finished with the following results:
- Kane Forseen — 2nd
- Gage Burden — 4th
- Michael Raines — 6th
- Gavin Menke-Bailey — 10th
- Corbin Jacobs-Jewell — 11th
- Killian Kelly — 17th
Coach Loyd remarked, “Super proud of these boys … it was a long, hard fought weekend. We still have work to do.”
Next up for the Tigers is a quad dual Friday, Dec. 22 at 11:30 a.m. at Notre Dame. It will feature New London, Notre Dame, Albia, and Iowa City Regina. Good luck Tigers!
