By Virginia Ekstrand
Nov. 16, 2023 4:46 pm
The Twelfth Annual Thanksgiving Day Dinner will be held at Clark Elementary School Cafeteria on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 23 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The meal is free and the entire community is invited to participate. If one wishes to enjoy Thanksgiving dinner in a family like atmosphere, come to Clark during the hours named. There will be volunteers there to help and other like-minded citizens with whom to visit and eat.
If getting out and about is not an option, volunteers are available to deliver meals to homes. Call or text Annie Powell at 319-457-0110 or email annie@powell2003.com. Home deliveries must be scheduled by 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22.
Twelve years ago, Annie and Marcus Powell began this marvelous event. Thanksgiving has become an important time for families to get together. Originally celebrating the harvest and blessings of the past year, it has become a time to share fellowship with others and celebrate democracy. Clark cafeteria is handicap-accessible and the school district provides the facility free of charge. The event has grown each year. In 2022, 193 meals were served.
Volunteers are needed. Monetary donations are accepted through Venmo: @newlondonthanksgiving. Food donations of rolls and desserts are desirable. People to make home deliveries, complete cooking chores and serve food are also welcome. Let Annie know how you wish to help.
