A heat advisory was declared for Sunday, Aug. 17. The Christian Church just outside New London on the Lowell Road declared “Waterpalooza!” From 4-7 p.m. families enjoyed all kinds of water events.
Water slides for all sizes were provided. These versatile inflatable air slides had generous pools of water at the end of the slope. Church volunteers were present making sure there were no collisions between enthusiastic sliding bodies. The toddler area also had a wading pool for the less adventurous.
No water play would be complete without a dunk tank. The person sitting waiting to be dunked was not worried. There were far more misses than hits.
For those not interested in getting wet or taking a break, a kickball game was very popular. There were certainly some great kicks and running the bases in the heat didn’t seem to bother. The kid car train ran a short circuit around the lot. There was an opportunity to get a tattoo. If one needed a bit to eat, a hot dog stand was available.
This free family evening provided some much-needed fun. It seemed the heat gave up a bit. Maybe just being out in the country away from all the concrete was the key. Thanks everyone!
