The spotlight this week is on the very innovative business owed by Deana Boecker. She has had a longtime presence on Main Street with various businesses. Her newest business is Back to My Roots & Unique Boutique.
There was another Unique Boutique 11 years ago next to the Dover Museum. It was full of antiques, primitives, and handmade items. The business moved to the shop next to the city office eight years ago. Two of her ladies made the move with Deana and did great until life sent them in other directions.
Deana and Tonya Callas ran Willow Sage that was packed with boho items, soaps, oils, jewelry, and décor. Then the Covid year upended everything. Deana continued to rent space for her salon business, but the building was sold and changed. Aesthetician Justine Wellington revamped the whole building. She added a massage room with Diane Brown as the massage therapist and Justine continued doing her signature facials and body waxing.
Twenty-three years into her salon business, Deana changed the name of her business to Back to My Roots & Unique Boutique. The name came to her when talking with one of her salon clients. She asked if there were soaps, oils, etc. still for sale. As Deana tells it, “I answered ‘no,’ but thought I need to go back to my roots. Earlier this year I made the name change. My talented friends were on board to start Unique Boutique again, and Justine quickly provided the space.”
There are currently 26 makers, creators, and bakers providing their wares. The offerings range from food items such as Brown Box cupcakes, Nana Pam’s cookies and Dutch letters to key chains, Tiger decals/stickers, bath salts, candles, diffusers, hats, and the list goes on and on. As Deana says, “It is full of amazing creations from all local creators.”
Deana is quick to single out David Ackles for all he does to assist her. He is always by her side, running the desk and being there after he is done at his real job. It allows Deana to stay behind the hair chair doing what she loves.
Between them, they are always trying to bring more creative pieces to the shop for all to enjoy.
If there is someone who is looking for a market for their creations, call Deana at 319-671-2501. She loves new arrivals and keeping the store looking fresh.
The Back to My Roots and Unique Boutique is located at 108 Main Street next to the city office. The Boutique is open from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and the first and third Saturdays, 9 a.m. until noon.
Deana and Dave encourage shoppers to stop in and check out this little hidden gem in New London that supports so many families. Buying local not only helps their bottom line, but brings them joy to see their creations enjoyed by others. It’s a win-win, and we are glad Deana is helping Main Street be a great destination.
