Winter sports started last week. As was the case for the last few years, the girls are once again battling low numbers with a roster of eight. The Tigers played W-MU on Nov. 21, losing 59 to 18. Senior Megan Lee was the leading scorer with eight points plus two rebounds and a steal. Paige Shull-Collins added seven points and three rebounds. Katelyn Allen finished with three points.
The Tigers faced a tough West Burlington team at home. The Tigers lost 16 to 61. Paige Shull-Collins had a nice game scoring 12 points and adding four steals. Other scorers were Molly Proost with three and Megan Lee with one. On Dec. 5, the teams made the long trip to Van Buren County. The final score was Warriors 63 — Tigers 9. No stats were available. This week they face Columbus and Notre Dame at home.
With the football season being canceled, it has been some time since those boys were in action. Their first basketball game was at home on Dec. 2 against West Burlington. A rough start hurt the Tigers. The score at halftime was 25 to 10. The Tigers lost by 21 with a final score of 51-30.
Leading the way for the boys were Cole Swanson, Logan Franklin, and Kye Reighard each with six points. Swanson pulled down an impressive eight rebounds and added three blocks. Other scorers were London Franklin with four and Gavin Strawhacker with three.
Van Buren County was next for the Tigers. This was an exciting game that came right down to the wire with the Tigers so close to getting a win. But the Warriors rallied, getting the 60 to 56 win over the Tigers.
The stat leaders were Brigham Porter with 16 points and four rebounds. Right behind Porter was London Franklin with 14 points and eight rebounds. Kye Reighard added 12 points and a mind boggling 12 rebounds, getting his first double-double of the season. Others scorers were Logan Franklin with seven and five rebounds and Cole Swanson with five points and 10 rebounds.
It was an exciting game that was close to the final buzzer. This week the boys take on Lone Tree, Columbus, and Notre Dame.
Good luck to both teams.
The wrestlers were in action on Dec. 6 as they hosted the annual Jeremy Fulk Classic. Hopefully I will have some results for next week.
