- D. Kenneth Shelledy’s children gave a presentation at the Dover Museum titled of his war experiences titled “Memories of the Pacific” to a packed house.
- A four-part series on the history of newspapers in New London started in the Journal.
- A new business, “Simply Golden Designs” was spotlighted.
- Local artist Deb Scott presents at the Dover Museum.
- The school board meets in special session to discuss the SRO position.
- Football, volleyball, and cross-country gear up for the upcoming fall season.
- Junior Gavin Menke-Bailey was selected to the All-Union baseball team.
- The first day of school and Meet the Players falls on August 23.
September
- Danville State Savings Bank celebrates 125 years of service.
- Tigers fall to Easton Valley 40 — 21 in the first football game.
- Burge Cemetery installs a water system to water new trees.
- Neal Edward Krieger passed away on Sept. 2. He was 79.
- New London Tiger wrestling hosted a golf fundraiser.
- Tiger volleyball takes two from Cardinal, 25-9 and 25-22.
- New London cross-country has its first meet wearing the black & gold under coach Bridget Swailes.
- The sixth grade visits Dover Museum.
- The NLHS Homecoming court is announced: Colin Pealer, Cael Wilka, Corbin Jacobs-Jewell, Gage Burden, Gavin Menke-Bailey, Hailee Dudley, Morgan Jones, Lillie Gallup, Shaylee Brothersen, and Stevey Wintermeyer.
- Crowned Homecoming Queen was Morgan Jones and King was Gavin Menke=Bailey.
- New London student, Gavin Browning, 16, was killed in a motor vehicle accident on Sept. 27. The collective heart of the community is broken.
- Jay Allen Boyd passed away on Sept. 21. He was 65.
- Class of 1974 has 50th class reunion.
- Tiger football gets a homecoming win against HLV, 54-38.
October
- New teacher spotlight: Patrice Williams McDonald — 4th grade; Kristen Rohdy — 5th grade; and Makenna Mullin — MS/HS English.
- Henry County supervisors approved NL school resource officer agreement.
- Former NL teacher, Dorothy Moehlman passed away on Oct. 4. She was 85.
- Helen Garrels passed away on Oct. 8. She was 101. She owned and operated Helen’s Variety for many years.
- Tiger volleyball took second place at their home tournament.
- Trick-or-Treat events were held at the city park.
- Stephen Smyth passed away on Oct. 9. He was 78.
- Zane Long received a medal at the JH state cross-country meet.
- Tiger football finishes on a high note with a 56-22 win over English Valleys.
- New London band participants to Monmouth College honor band were Colin Pealer, Zoe Long, Abigail Denney, Tray Schuster, Riley Merschman, and Carleen Zaragoza.
November
- Bob Lerdal passed away on November 1. He was 83.
- Filling Station youth group gathers food for Tiger Pantry.
- On Nov. 11, the New London School District observes Veterans Day.
- Arnie Anderson, instrumental music teacher, was honored by Iowa HS Music Association with the Teacher’s Tenure Award.
- Esports teams will play at the Esports state tournament. They finished 3rd.
- Chris Ahmann-Leighton Perham, a 1992 Olympian in swimming, spoke to New London students about her gold medal experience.
- Thanksgiving baskets were delivered by New London students.
- Gail Hallowell passed away on Nov. 17. He was 77.
- The basketball and wrestling seasons begin.
- Around 200 Thanksgiving meals were served by volunteers.
- There was a house fire on Nov. 27. The occupants were safe.
- Elliott Henderson passed away on Nov. 27. He was 7 weeks old.
December
- The new business on Main Street, Mercedes Sweet Treats, is spotlighted.
- The K-12 winter concert was Dec. 5 and was well-attended.
- The Little Shoppers event was a great success.
- Caydin Wahls was named to the dean’s list at Palmer College of Chiropractic.
- The Holiday Stroll was canceled due to bad weather.
- Letters to Santa were published in the Journal.
- Deana Boecker brings back Unique Boutique to Main Street.
- Grow and Glow Preschool presents Christmas program on Dec. 19.
- With the Stroll canceled, there was a “Meet and Greet” with Santa at the fire station on Dec. 22.
