Washington County 4-H seeks to honor the group’s senior members by shining the spotlight on each one as they near the end of their 4-H journey. Today the spotlight shines on Austin Black.
Name: Austin Black
Hometown: Keota, Iowa
Parents/Family: Suzanne and Joel Black, Lexi Brandon, and Peyton Kleese
School: Keota High School
4-H Club: Horse and Pony Club
Projects: Dog, Goat, Sheep, Horse
4-H Activities: I have been a mentor for the goat project for the last four years. I have held an office position, been a camp counselor, and helped with Kids Day during the fair.
Special 4-H memory/highlight:
All the friends I have made and watching all my hard work pay off. I also love the see and help the younger 4-H members when they need it.
Please write a few complete sentences about what you learned in 4-H, or why others should join 4-H.
“I learned responsibility, how to communicate, and that if you want to accomplish something you have to work hard for it. It means more when you can say, “I did that.” Others should join because it’s a fun experience, you make great memories and have fun all while learning something.”
Other Activities: I have been a member of EagleRock! For 4 years as well as Keota FFA.
Future plans: I plan to attend Kirkwood Community College to study Automotive Collision and Repair.
