Award-winning Filmmaker to Present at Washington library

One of the best things about working at the Washington Public Library is having the opportunity of meeting very talented people. We often have musicians, artists, authors, photographers and writers visiting us.

On April 5 we have the pleasure of featuring Steven Berry, writer, author, and filmmaker. Steven is the son of artist Jean Berry, whose artwork hangs in the library. He is also the brother of Venise Berry, who participated in our Author Fest last year. Meeting this family has been a great pleasure and an inspiration for how creativity can be encouraged throughout a family.

Steven is an award-winning independent filmmaker who writes, directs, and acts. Steven worked on the Iowa Public Television series “Telling Our Story-Black History Segment,” Episode 3, which was nominated for an Emmy in 2022.

On Saturday, April 5, he will attend the library’s Washington Writer’s Workshop at 10 a.m. to speak on screenwriting, then he will give two presentations on his film work starting at 11:30 a.m. including "Influential Impact: The Cyclization of Black Films" and "In Front of & Behind the Camera: An Acting/Directing Retrospective." Steven Berry’s presentations will be an interesting introduction to filmmaking as the following weekend, April 12th and 13th, is the Farm to Film Fest.
