The train streamed across the tracks. The crossbuck lifted. The car zipped across the tracks to her house and Audrey climbed out of the car holding a yellow blanket. Ben appeared at the door and walked to her.
“Trouble! The twins changed into animals. I brought them home and they made a mess in the kitchen.”
“Well, let’s put food in the basket and take them back to the fire circle in the forest.”
Ben looked at Audrey, confused. What did she know?
“Why?”
“Trust me, Julien.” She smiled over her shoulder as she headed towards the kitchen.
Cucumber sandwiches, walnuts and blueberries were packed.
Audrey put the bunny on top of the yellow blanket and Ben carried the basket. The fawn followed them. The trail was covered by green mist. They walked out of the woods to the logs by the fire circle.
Audrey placed the bunny on a log. After opening the basket, Ben placed a cucumber sandwich on the log by the bunny and a second sandwich by the fawn. Both animals nibbled.
Audrey said, “Now we wave the blanket.”
The couple waved the blanket, moving the green mist upward and high towards a tree.
“Abracadabra.”
The twins pushed out from under the blanket.
Bunny shouted, “Hooray!”
Fawn yelled, “Hurrah!”
They hugged their parents, magically turned back into two little girls.
From her perch in a tree, Aurelia hollered, “You figured it out.”
Ben held out a sandwich and Aurelia flew forward and grabbed it. The green mist followed her flight to the forest. The couple placed the leftover food by the trees and animals came out to eat.
Audrey, Ben, Fawn and Bunny sat and ate sandwiches by the fire ring and began to sing.
“You have to believe we are magic. Nothin’ can stand in our way. You have to believe we are magic. Don’t let your aim ever stray. And if your aim ever stray, and if your hopes survive, destiny will arrive. I’ll bring all your dreams alive for you.”
