WASHINGTON — It was a bottle popping, confetti soaring celebration as plenty of faces gathered to witness a ribbon cutting event last Thursday, March 5 for JT’s Sips’ new location in downtown Washington.
“We are very excited for today, and it’s crazy to think what started as a little trailer has grown into this location,” Julie Klett, the J in JT Sips, said at the ribbon cutting alongside the T in JT Sips, Tina Conwell.
There was ample community support at this grand opening for a coffee shop and specialty beverage business that began in 2022 as a mobile trailer. Even with this new brick and mortar location, expect the trailer to still be out during the warmer months.
“We started coffee in the special ed room for the special ed students to learn life skills,” Klett said about the origins of JT Sips. “Did that for a few years, and it grew and grew.”
Klett, who was a special-education teacher at WACO high school in Wayland, and Conwell, who was a paraeducator for WACO, both take great pride in giving back to the community.
Their business growth over the years is a testament to their hard work and ability to connect with their
The passion they held as teachers continues to shine through with JT Sips and now with their new location, they aim to be a more permanent fixture of the Washington community. If the crowd they drew for this event was any indication of their future, it wouldn’t come as a surprise if JT Sips becomes a popular location for locals and a must-see spot for visitors.
Located at 116A E. Washington St., near the local movie theater, JT Sips serves espresso, cold brew, refreshers, popping boba, chai, matcha, and more. They also have grab and go baked goods by Mom’s Two Hands Bakery.
Plenty members of the community showed up to show their support for JT Sips ribbon cutting event in Washington on March 5.
