Relay for Life coming up in Washington

WASHINGTON - The annual American Cancer Society Relay for Life is coming up June 29, with events planned in Washington’s central park throughout the day.
ImpactLife plans to hold a blood drive from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., while the relay for life event itself will run from 2-7 p.m. The schedule includes an opening ceremony at 2, a survivor/caregiver ceremony at at 3, a desert auction at 4, and raffle winner announcements at 6:15. Organizers will also hold a Luminaria Ceremony at 6:30 p.m.
A full schedule of the event follows:
- 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Blood Drive by Impact Life (Northside of Central Park)
- Noon: Committee/Team/Craft, Product and Food Vendors Set-up, Auction Check-in (Dessert, Online and Memorial Tribute set-up.)
- 1:15 p.m. Survivor Registration and pick up t-shirt (if preordered and not already picked up)
- 2 p.m. Opening Ceremony
- Opening Speaker: Denise Conrad (ACS Senior Development Manager)
- National Anthem: Abe Miller
- Opening Prayer: Rick Zickefoose (Pastor, Brighton Community Church)
- Proclamation: Millie Youngquist (Mayor, City of Washington)
- Announcement of Relay Event Sponsors and Vendors/Introduction of Relay Committee: Denise Conrad and “How your ACS dollars benefit Washington County and American Cancer Society services available.”
- Speaker: Dr. Stephanie Gilbertson White, PhD, APRN-BC, Associate Professor, Director PhD Program University of Iowa. Program of research in cancer symptom science. Her research is funded by the American Cancer Society.
- 3 p.m. Survivor/Caregiver Ceremony
- Survivor Speaker: Connie Emry
- Caregiver Speaker: Carmen Schrock Fernau/Introduced by husband Joe Fernau
- Survivor Lap around interior of the park then Survivor/Caregiver Lap
- 3:30 p.m. Entertainment: Abe Miller
- 4-5 p.m. Dessert Auction: Auctioneer Steve Weller (Weller Auction Service - Oskaloosa)
- 5:-6:15 p.m. Entertainment: Ken Kline (Accomplished Guitarist, Fairfield)
