Women of Washington honor Lee Buchholz, NHS inductees

The Women of Washington, formerly known as the American Association of University Women, recently hosted their 35th reception for the Washington High School National Honor Society students. This reception honored the new inductees, the current members and the Women of Washington’s 2023 Education Award recipient, Lee Buchholz.

Virginia Bordwell introduced the evening’s speaker, Sonia Leyva who shared her story. Leyva encouraged all in attendance to accept failure as only part of their journey. Additionally, she encouraged everyone to reach out to others in receiving or giving advice, to embrace change and to grow and learn forever.

Lee Buchholz was the 2023 Educational Award Recipient. He was honored for his commitment to teaching students of all ages, which he continues to do. From his many years as a music teacher in Columbus Junction, to the professional development courses he led for teachers and even now filling in as a substitute teacher. Lee continues to positively impact the lives of student learners.
