WINFIELD — The Winfield-Mt. Union's large gym was buzzing with excitement from the community members and students as they gathered to celebrate Abram Edwards and Cam Buffington signing their National Letters of Intent to play Division I football next year.
According to High School principal Gaige Gill, this is the first time in the school's history to have student athletes sign to play football at the Division I level.
Football coach Scott MCCarty told the crowd it takes exceptional athletes and even better people to be able to do what Edwards and Buffington are doing, noting to the elementary students in attendance, "this is what happens when you work hard and you're a good kid."
After signing their letters of intent, both Edwards and Buffington said a few words to thank their families and the community for supporting them throughout the years. Elementary students were then invited to get autographs from the athletes and pose for pictures.
