STUDY CLUB MEETS
The Crawfordsville Wednesday Study Club met at the Dairy Mart on Wednesday, May 17, 2022 at 2 p.m. Members present were Ruth Erwin, Debbie Lowe, Rachel Koehler, Pauline Richardson, Joyce Roth and Cathy Richardson.
While enjoying ice cream treats, the group shared some book reviews and passed along books to read. Debbie read some history of the club she had gleaned from the historian scrapbooks. The original club was formed in 1904 and was named "Care-A-Way Circle" with 12 members. In 1930 "Wednesday Study Club" became the name when they joined the Federation Women's Clubs. Although no longer Federation members and now with a smaller membership, the ladies enjoy meeting together to share books and occasionally have a program on an interesting topic.
The next meeting will be a picnic on Tuesday, June 21, 2023 with the time and place to be announced.
FISH FRY
The United Church of Crawfordsville Membership and Mission Committee is sponsoring a Fish Fry Sunday, June 4, 2023 from 4:30-6:30 p.m.
Deep Fried Fish, Chicken Strips, Tater-Tots, Chips, Potato Salad, Cole Slaw and Desserts will be served.
This is Dine-in or Carry-out. All for a Free-will Donation. Proceeds will go to support the WACO Food Pantry.
LIONS CLUB MEETS
The Crawfordsville Lions Club met for their regular meeting, Monday, May 22, 2023 at 7 p.m. with 11 members present at the Crawfordsville Community Room.
President Finke opened the meeting leading the Pledge to the Flag and Lion Gene Miller offered prayer. Secretary Rose read the minutes of the May 8 meeting. They were approved as read. Treasurer Finke gave the treasurer's report.
Old Business: Council Chair Nancy brought the t-shirts that the club ordered for Fun Days. Also, the pork burgers will be available for pick up on Saturday, July 8. The winner of the club's WACO scholarship is Natalie West. She will be going to Kirkwood next year and will be studying Criminal Justice.
New Business: It was decided to have a dinner meeting on June12. Council Chair Love reported the Iowa District 9EC will host their second Beat Childhood Cancer Night at the Cedar Rapids Kernels game on Friday, September 1 at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Cedar Rapids. This is a fundraiser for the Lions Club International Foundation focused on Childhood Cancer Awareness. The Kernels will be wearing special "Beat Cancer" jerseys and special "Beat Cancer" shirts will be sold as well.
At last year's event, filmed by Lions International, Lions raised close to $3500. Mark your calendars and come out and cheer them on. While you're at it, talk to others about all the worthwhile work that Lions Clubs International does in your community and the world! We are always looking for new members!
