WINFIELD — Wayland Tractor Club completed a quick day of plowing 60 acres east of Winfield over the weekend for their annual plow day.
On Saturday, Nov. 4, the Wayland Tractor Club congregated at Steve Gerling's 60-acre field on 120th Street East of Winfield to plow his field.
It is rather level, no waterways no tile risers, etc. The club looks for those types of fields to get the plowing completed rapidly.
They began at 9:30 and were finished by 2:30 thanks to the work of seventeen units consisting of all ages of tractors and three or four bottom plows.
Operators ranging from their 30's on up came to learn, plow, mentor, and smell the rich plowed Iowa soil.
Wayland Tractor Club President Rob Swigart, of Mt. Pleasant, explained their goal which consists of service for landowner, learn from others, mentor others, and fellowship of other tractor owners.
The goal is to have the plow day annually. This year was excellent weather to be outside!
Members came from Coppack, Mt. Pleasant, Mt. Union, Columbus Junction, Keswick, and Winfield to name a few.
Their tractors included Allis Chambers D17, John Deere 3010, International Harvester, Oliver, Minneapolis Moline and Farmall. They also included a very colorful assortment of tractors and plows which were 3, 4, 5 and a 6 bottom plow.
