Jake McVey coming to Winfield

WINFIELD — Winfield Area Grateful Gathering (WAGG), along with over 15 area businesses, is bringing Iowa native country singer Jake McVey to Winfield in February for a concert.

This concert is open to the public free of charge thanks to the generous sponsors, and will be held at the W-MU large Gym on Saturday, Feb. 10, at 5:30 p.m.

While McVey's publicist says he has shared the stage with some of country music's biggest acts, including Blake Shelton, Thomas Rhett, Luke Bryan, Jason Aldean, Little Big Town, Lady A, Miranda Lambert and Dierks Bentley, he got his start right here in Southeast Iowa.

McVey was born just down the road from his Winfield in Washington and has lived in Mt. Pleasant, Mediapolis, Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, and Burlington.

According to his website, McVey sees himself as “ … a good Iowa boy who likes to work hard.”

Many of McVey’s top songs come from his life experiences such as “Never Give Up,” released in 2017 and “Grow,” released in 2019.

"It isn't just the big, tragic moments that can get you down, it's the day-to-day that can get pretty heavy. From the small-town farmer to the selfless servicemen and women, our communities are filled with hard workers who make sacrifices every day to play their important roles in our communities and within their own families," McVey has said.

McVey dedicated his “Never Give Up” music video to first responders and hopes that they find inspiration in the song to keep pushing forward.

"If I've learned anything, it's that you just have to keep going,” he said. “Through the good and the bad, you have to find what keeps you moving and just 'never give up.' "
