1948
•New London far exceeded any construction record in the past, both in number of projects and in total value. Conservative estimates show a total of $204,160 spent on building for the year.
•Mr. and Mrs. George Britton will celebrate the 60th wedding on New Year’s Day at the home of their daughter, Mrs. Edna DeLong.
•Ben Vincent, 88, while walking down thee street in front of the Wm. Drewer Home fell and fractured his hip. He is now in the Burlington Hospital.
•In honor of Mr. and Mrs. Homer Raines’ silver wedding anniversary on Dec. 24, Mr. and Mrs. Mervin Raines and Lettie Faye entertained at a surprise party in the New London Hall. Over 35 people attended.
•The following third-graders had a perfect paper in spelling: Willis Bozarth, Billy Denney, Robert Hamilton, Dallas Piper, Sonja Carter, Wanda Hale, Shirley Kuhlenbeck, and Yvonne Miller.
•This week at the Alamo: “Feudin,’ Fussin,’ and a Fightin’ starring Donald O’Connor and Marjorie Main and “Summer Holiday” starring Mickey Rooney and Gloria De Haven.
1973
•Dale Brissey named the new service manager at Hines Motors.
•Carolyn Dameron, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Dameron, became the bride of Tom Walker on December 7.
•Mr. and Mrs. Howard Ritchey have sold their variety store to Mr. and Mrs. Bill Mathers, effective January 1.
•Mr. and Mrs. Charles Piper received a call from their son, Hal, who is serving aboard the USS Midway ported in Yokosuka, Japan.
•Scott Haist and Phil Byrum battle for a rebound in the Tigers’ 53-41 win over L & M.
1998
•Crenna Brumwell, a junior at University of Northern Iowa, is visiting New London High School as a representative of the Panther Push Program.
•Obituaries this week: Lavinta Othel Shamblin and Anna Chambers.
•Renee Cooper was named to the President’s Honor List for the 1998 fall semester at Northeast Community College in Norfolk, Virginia.
•The Lady Tigers fell to the Danville Bears, 44-32. Rachael Dingman led the Tigers with 11 points. Lyndsay Worden had seven points and eight rebounds. Susan Wick added six points.
2013
•The Veterans’ Memorial Park received a $9,000 donation from the Enhance Henry County Community Foundation.
•The Holiday Stroll Christmas tree Decorating Contest Winners: First — Woobies; 2nd — The Guitar Farm; and 3rd — Rod’s Auto.
•Obituaries this week: Robert Dameron and Hyrel Maxine Eichler.
•Jordan McPheron, son of Bob and Julie McPheron, received his doctorate in physical therapy from Azusa Pacific University, Azusa, California on Dec. 14.
