Meet Kylie, a lifelong resident of Olds. She has lived in the same location for 28 years and has no plans to leave the community.
She is a valued member of the small town and would certainly be missed if she moved. She is very photogenic and has had numerous photos taken either alone or with a visitor. Her weight is unknown as it isn’t polite to ask a lady how much they weigh. She is only five feet but could easily hold her own with much taller and wider people. However, she is so mellow that she has never been a problem.
If you haven’t met Kylie, please take time to venture just a couple blocks east of the Pep Stop and introduce yourself. She’s not much of a talker but always welcomes visitors.
Kylie, the cement gorilla, has lived in Olds since 1997. An establishment that sold and/or made lawn ornaments was in Olds. When it went out of business, all the lawn ornaments were sold except Kylie, she remained homeless. With little hope of finding a home, it was said that she was purchased by L.J, Roth, a prominent businessman in Olds.
For several years, Olds residents showered Kylie with attention, dressing her up for various holidays and including her in the town’s festivities. Kylie's fame has faded, and she is now just part of the town's history without much notice. But with or without fame, Kylie remains a unique part of Olds history and if she was moved, her presence would be missed.
Information about Kylie was obtained from the Olds webpage and two employees of Mr. Roth. He could not be reached for a comment.
