Makayla Phillips has two “firsts” to experience this school year. First, this is her first year of teaching and second-it is her first year of teaching science at Winfield-Mount Union. Mrs. Phillips is one of the two new teachers that joined the WMU staff this school year.
Originally from Monticello, Iowa, she graduated from Monticello High School in 2019. Following high school, she enrolled at Iowa State where she earned a B.S. in biology and a Master’s in secondary education.
Mrs. Phillips lives in Mt. Pleasant with her husband Robert Phillips and their two cats, Augie and Timber. When she isn’t in the classroom, Mrs. Phillips enjoys hiking, reading, baking and crocheting.
“I thought it would be fun to take up crocheting so that I could make things for my friends and family. I just finished making my first octopus,” she said.
WMU welcomes Mrs. Phillips to our school.
