MORNING SUN — A two-vehicle accident at the intersection of M Avenue and Highway 78 in Morning Sun resulted in both sustaining injuries last Thursday, Nov. 9.
According to the Iowa State Patrol crash report, Sharon S. Jennings, 74 of Mt. Union, was transported to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics via Med Force Air following a collision with Zane Veach, 14 of Wapello, Thursday, Nov. 9.
The report states Veach also suffered injuries in the accident and was taken via private vehicle to Great River Medical Center.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, this accident happened when Jennings failed to obey a stop sign upon entering Highway 78.
Her 2011 Honda then collided with Veach’s 2014 Ford pickup and resulted in both vehicles coming to a rest in the southeast ditch.
Louisa County Sheriff’s Office then asked the public to avoid the area as crews worked.
According to Wapello Fire and Rescue, at approximately 4:22 p.m. they received a call to assist Morning Sun Fire Department and Wapello Ambulance with a two-vehicle accident with injuries and entrapment.
“Dispatch quickly requested a MedForce helicopter to the scene,” a statement from Wapello Fire and Rescue stated. “Upon arrival, Morning Sun firefighters had gained access to the entrapped patient and Wapello Ambulance staff immediately began to render aid. The patient was transported to the hospital by helicopter. A second person was treated and released by EMS.”
This accident remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol.
