Notes from the June 20 Wayland Lions Club meeting

The Wayland Lions Club held their June meeting at “Your Choice Restaurant.” There were 16 members and Guest Speaker Bryan Bross in attendance.
Lion Brian Pattyson called the meeting to order and led the Pledge of Allegiance.
The Invocation was given by Lion Roger Roth, blessing those attending the meeting and the meal.
Lion Secretary Bill Grimm gave the minutes from the last meeting and Treasurer Terry Kaufman gave the Treasurer’s Report. Both were accepted unanimously.
The meeting resumed after the meal.
Old Business:
• Four new Flag Subscriptions were added bringing the total to 133. The Wayland Lions Club American Flag Program requires a $35 payment for this year’s program.
• The Wayland Lions Club installs the American Flag on the participants’ property during the following holidays:
1. Memorial Day---------------------------May 29, 2023
2. Flag Day-----------------------------------June 14, 2023
3. Independence Day----------------------July 4, 2023
4. Labor Day---------------------------------September 4, 2023
5. Veterans Day----------------------------November 11, 2023
• The proceeds from the program are used to fund projects for the Wayland Communities.
• Lion Stan Meyer distributed the work position list for the July 4th Independence Day Pancake Breakfast. The Pancakes, Eggs and Sausage will be served from 6:30 AM to 9:30 AM at the Wayland Community Center.
• Wayland Lions Blood Drive goal was 24 units with 1 unit of Double Red. The Blood Drive was successful in receiving 26 units of whole blood and 4 Double Reds. Wayland Lions Club appreciates the Wayland community’s participation.
• Vice President Theresa Ferdig discussed a donation to Deb Barnett’s Saddle Club. The Wayland Lions approved the requested donation. Lion Theresa Ferdig volunteered to assist at the function.
• WACO $500 Scholarship recipient Katie Leichty’s Thank You Note was read to the members by President Jay Meyer.
• President Jay Meyer acknowledged the Lions Clubs International Chevron that was awarded the Wayland Lions Club for Donation to the Lions Clubs International Fund Foundation.
New Business:
• Past District Governor & Council Chair Bryan Bross presented the Service Awards to the recipients. Bryan discussed the importance of each award and encouraged the members to welcome others to join them in serving their community.
1. Treasurer Terry Kaufman received the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award.
2. The following Wayland Lions received the Warren Coleman Award:
i. Jay Meyer
ii. Bill Grimm
iii. Ron Marsh
iv. Gwen DeVaul
• Bryan Bross complimented the Wayland Lions on their years of service and ability to work through Covid to serve their community.
President Jay Meyer handed the Gavel to New President Theresa Ferdig whose term will be from 7/1/2023 to 6/30/2024.

• Wayland Lions Club was chartered on April 10, 1958, making April 10 2023 our 65TH ANNIVERSARY! A celebration event is planned for October 2023.

• Meetings start @ 6:30 PM & adjourn around 7:45 to 8:00 PM.
