Randall Keith Kongable, Winfield, has been recognized nationally by the American Angus Association for having 1 registered Angus cow included in the Association’s 2013 Pathfinder Report.
The Winfield City Council met in regular session on Monday, February 11, 2013 at 7pm at City Hall with Mayor Chris Finnell presiding. Council persons present: David Good, Roger Sharp, Ryan Kinberg and Ryan Rees.
Max Fricke had a game high score of 14 to lead three Winfield-Mt Union double digit scorers in the Wolves’ Class 1A district first-round win over Fairfield Marharishi, 63 – 35

An investigation into a Winfield burglary has led to the arrest of several individuals for the burglary of the Jack and Jill Store in Mediapolis which occurred during the late evening hours of February 19. An investigation by the Winfield Police Department and the Henry County Sherriff’s Office led to the discovery.
Boy Scout Troop 321 is holding a pancake and sausage breakfast at the Winfield VFW Building on Sunday, March 1. A free will donation will be taken for all you can eat.
Once again the WMU boys basketball team came out on a tear but fell short due to a drought in the third quarter. Despite a halftime lead, WMU fell to L & M 67-50
50 years ago – February 22, 1973
Mrs. Dorraine Lauer, WMU speech coach, reports that the WMU speech students made a fine showing at the Conference Individual Speech Contest, Feb, 10, at Lone Tree. WMU tallied ten 1 ratings in the finals, a very fine showing due to the tough competition. Those in the final round include Pat Gipple, Cindy Jennings, Linda Ray, Marvin Comstock, Dorilys Cline, Jan Cornick, Fran Cady, Jackie Huff, Becky Budde, Jeff Busbee, Annette Jennings.
A crowd of about 350 people attended the reception for Dr. and Mrs. Rueben Widmer on Sunday at the Presbyterian Church.
The WMU Wolvettes are now well into district competition this week at Washington after winning the Parsons College sectional last week.
75 years ago – February 26, 1948
Winfield declamatory students will compete in the pre-district speech contest at Fairfield next week. Schools represented there, besides Winfield, are Fairfield, Mt Pleasant, Mt Union, Huron, Crawfordsville, Keosauqua and Hedrick.
The Scottish Highlanders from the State University of Iowa came to Winfield last Thursday, piped, sand, and danced for an audience estimated at 450 persons in the school gymnasium. The audience seemed to be greatly pleased by each number presented by the Highlanders.
In one of the roughest games of the year, Winfield eked out a 44 – 43 victory over New London there last Friday night, to end the league season with 10 wins and no loses.
