Helen and Mayne Courter served as Grand Marshals in the 2005 Crooked Creek Day parade.
WMU head softball coach Dave Therme was inducted into the Iowa Girls Coaches Association at the 21st Annual All Stars Game on Aug. 8, 2005, at Johnson High School.

Martha Lee Wakeland, age 53, of Wapello, died Aug. 2, 2000, at the Wapello Nursing and Care Center.
1995

Michelle McAllister, Mt. Union, and Shawn Pezley were united in marriage June3, 1995, at the Mt. Union United Methodist Church.
Cassandra Barwick and Bryan Wanner have announced their upcoming wedding, Aug. 26, 1995, at the Winfield First Presbyterian Church.

A surprise dinner to celebrate the 25th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Gary Buffington, was held on Aug. 12 at Jerry’s in Mt. Pleasant. It was hosted by their children.
1985
Alan Trees, Rick Buffington, and Richard Wilkerson have filed nomination papers for the WMU school board.
A 1975 Mack semi-trailer truck owned by Unkrich Feed Company, Mt. Pleasant, and driven by Stephen m. King, 24, of Olds, and a 1977 IHC semi owned by R&R Farms, Oskaloosa, and driven by John Rea, 41, Kirksville, collided on Highway 78 just east of Highway 218 north of Olds.
1980
The WMU board of education held an emergency meeting to discuss the status of the damage to the Mt. Union school building as a result of the collapse of the roof of the gym.
1975
Fire destroyed a large hay barn, a connecting farrowing house, eight sows, and 40 little pigs at the Stan Schneider farm six miles east of Winfield.
A new 60,000-bushel bean storage bin is being erected at the south elevator of the Winfield Farmers Cooperative Company.
1970
Sgt. Carl Alvine, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Alvine, rural Mt. Pleasant, returned Aug. 7 following a 13-month tour in Korea with the 2nd Infantry Division.
1965
Larry Rodruck, Myron Bitting, and John Humphrey were injured in a one-car accident north of Mt. Union on Aug. 5, 1965.
1955
Mrs. Kenneth Wasson suffered first and second degree burns when the glass bottom of a coffee maker broke and boiling water splashed over her at the Lil-Ken Café.
A large barn on the Dave Wolf farm west of Winfield was destroyed by fire and a large barn filled with hay on the Perry Mathews farm where Carl Mumme lived have burned.
