New staff at WMU include Jeff Maeder, Justin Chambers, Casey Robertson, Will Hansen, Robert Helgerson, Jill Blake, Tiffany Sammons, Kathy Holtcamp, Amy Davis, Kristyn Delzell, Tracy Stucker, Tabitha Unternahrer, and Jessica Tamerius.
2005
Karen Lemke, owner/manager of Pork’s Restaurant in Winfield, has announced they are making good use of their year-round Christmas Tree by collecting school supplies to be given to WMU students who need supplies during the school year.
Les Miles, a junior at WMU, is participating in the rotary International Exchange Program and will leave for Argentina this week.
2000
The much-needed addition to the Winfield Fire Station will become a reality following a special meeting on Aug. 8 by the Winfield City Council.
Emily Metzger and Mason Ross have announced their engagement and upcoming Sept. 30, 2000 wedding.
1990
A boy scout troop from Germany enjoyed golfing at Twin Lakes as guests of Lester and Margaret Biggerstaff.
Construction will soon be underway for the completion of a new bank building just east of the present bank in Mt. Union.
1985
Shari Carden, age 13, received a bronze medal for placing third in the individual all-around at the Junior Olympics competition.
Deborah Ann Davis, age 20, of Littleton, Colorado suffered a fatal asthma attack at Pueblo, Colorado.
1980
The school board opposed repairing the Mt. Union gym, but a new building will be constructed on a site yet to be determined.
Voters of the WMU school district will be asked to approve a tax of 67.5 cents per thousand dollars of assessed valuation.
1975
Sunrise Terrace is the name chosen by the board of directors for the Health Care Center which is nearing completion in Winfield.
Four Boy Scouts of Troop 32 received scouting’s highest rank, the Eagle Awards, in a Court of Honor. They are Greg Tolander, Kevin Kaufman, Craig Canby, and Todd Fischer.
1965
Jane Wickham and Russ Barlow were married Aug. 7, 1965, at the Finley Chapel.
Nancy Hall was crowned queen of the Winfield Harvest Festival.
Ronald Rodruck has resigned as manager of the Winfield Municipal Gas System and will join the maintenance staff of the OE McIntyre Company at Mt. Pleasant.
Thelma Mullin, age 56, passed away Aug. 12, 1965, at Mt. Pleasant Hospital.
1955
Gerald Howell, age 25, of Crawfordsville, was scheduled to leave for a trip to India as a member of an International Farm Youth Exchange Program.
1945
Carl Sandburg, farmer of the Swedesburg community, has composed and published a song entitled, “When the Blue Star has Turned to Gold,” which has been arranged for the piano by Vivian Hult Carlson.
Dwight Patterson, who has served in Africa and Italy, has received his discharge and arrived home.
